What could be causing tooth pain, looseness, and grinding at 57 and what treatment is recommended?

JosephMay 1, 2026

I’m 57 years old. I visit the dentist every six months. I take fish oil and zinc supplements, and I also take medication for hay fever (Neoclarityn).

Sometimes I feel pain in my teeth, and it feels like they are loose or “falling out.” I’m not sure if it’s related to my sinus issues, as I may need a septoplasty with trimming for my nose. I also grind my teeth quite a lot.

I would like to understand what treatment you would recommend for my situation.

ANSWER

Based on your description, there is significant tooth wear, and many of your teeth are no longer properly visible due to the level of abrasion.

We would recommend a full smile rehabilitation with 28 zirconium crowns, along with a night guard to protect your teeth from grinding.

Additionally, the need for root canal treatments or fillings can only be confirmed after evaluating your X-rays in detail.

This treatment plan will help restore both the function and aesthetics of your teeth while also protecting them long-term.
