Which Treatments Are Recommended for My Current Dental Condition, and How Does Bruxism (Teeth Grinding) Affect the Success of the Treatment?

Mehmet TunaJun 23, 2026

I am 57 years old. I do not have any systemic health problems that could affect the treatment. I am using antidepressants. I am also taking Octasa for ulcerative colitis and Atorvastatin for cholesterol. I am planning to come to Turkey in July or August 2026 for treatment and will stay in Turkey for at least 6 months.

Which implant and crown treatments are recommended according to my current dental condition? How do the advanced levels of wear on my teeth and the teeth grinding (bruxism) problem affect the treatment plan? Why are masseter botox and night guard use deemed necessary? If these additional treatments are not applied, is there a risk of damage or fracture to the zirconium crowns?

ANSWER

A total of 3 implants are planned for the regions of teeth numbers 14, 15, and 35 for our patient.

Application of monolithic zirconium crowns is recommended for teeth numbers 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, and 46.

Advanced degree wear was detected in the teeth during radiographic and clinical evaluation. This condition indicates that the patient has a severe bruxism (teeth grinding and clenching) problem. For this reason, crown treatment alone will not be sufficient.

In order to protect the long-term success of the treatment, a combined treatment plan including masseter botox application together with hard night guard use is recommended for our patient. While masseter botox reduces the excessive force created by the chewing muscles, the night guard will also protect the crowns from excessive pressures that may occur during sleep.

If these protective measures are not applied, excessive load may occur on the zirconium crowns, and as a result, the risk of complications such as fracture, cracking, or shortening of the lifespan of the restorations may increase significantly.
